The headline of the article Russia and Britain should beat Isil as we did the Nazis: together”. The author of the article is Alexander Yakovenko. It was published in The Telegraph on the 27th of November. The main idea of this article is the unification of the forces of Russia and UK. He gives the reader some information on as Britain debates its role in fighting Islamic, Russia and others, including France, would welcome our British partners doing their bit to defeat this evil.
The author starts by telling historic event when Sir Churchill said that Soviet Ambassador Ivan Maisky that he would save a bottle of vodka so they could drink it together when Great Britain and Russia beat Hitler’s Germany. The article describes the present situation about Isil and other terrorists. They are a horrible and opportunistic marriage of religious fanatics with the rump of the Iraqi Baathist regime and Saddam Hussein’s officer corps. They took advantage of the civil war in Syria to try to make a Sunni-Shia schism the pivot-point of politics in a region left suddenly to its own devices. According to the text the outrageous downing of a Russian plane over Syria exposes the inherent dangers of Western alliances in the region. The Turks delivered one of Russian’s pilots into the hands of terrorists. It is high time that some regional players stopped solving problems of their own at somebody else’s expense, even by sponsoring terrorists. They must stop exporting poisonous ideology and pursuing agendas that threaten regional security. The article goes on to say that Russia makes no linkages between the Syrian situation and those elsewhere, including the Ukrainian crisis. In conclusion the author said that Britain modified its narrative in Northern Ireland to work with all sides there. Also if Russia and the UK will fight together the terrorism would be defeated.
I found the article interesting, especially if you follow the news. There are a lot of strange situation has happened this month. I consider if we want a world piece must seek it and found new confederates.
What do you think: it would be better if Russia and the UK would cooperate against the terrorism or Russia should find other partner? Why?

Nastya, thank you for such a vival topic! This theme is really alarming and Russia should be very careful in making decisions. You're asking if Russia should cooperate with the UK against terrorism. My answer is NO. Is the UK a reliable patner? Do they deserve our respect after all the things to have done? We must be extremelly careful - Russia is going to relive and some countries, namely the UK and the USA [it is not a secret they have always acted together], try not to admit it. We have never been given any unselfish support from their sides, so I do think Russia isn't worth to have such a "friend".
ОтветитьУдалитьMoreover there is a great developing organisation named BRICS. I consider it is the best variant for Russia to cooperate and act with.
Thank you for analyzing this urgent issue, Nastya! Looking through the history we can notice that most of partners which Russia cooperated with could easily betray our country. And I think they would like to unite with our country only due to their greed and great desire to grab our lands (as it always was). Once upon a time Russia was a Great Power but now other countries don't consider it to be a serious contender. That's why I think it's better for Russia not to team up with the UK.
